Why I Built My AI Second Brain
2026-01-25
I’ve always believed that personal productivity tools should be deeply personal. The off-the-shelf solutions force you into their model of how work should happen. But that’s not how minds actually work.
The Spark
I came across this YouTube video about building a second brain with AI, and something clicked. Not because the ideas were new—I’ve been thinking about knowledge management for years—but because someone else was articulating what I’d been feeling: capture should be frictionless, organization should be automatic.
The Connection to Good News!
Years ago, I wrote Good News! It’s all your fault—a framework for taking radical ownership of your life. The core idea: you create your reality through your choices, your attention, your words.
This AI Journal system is the practical manifestation of that philosophy. It’s not just about organizing tasks. It’s about creating a system that reflects how I actually think, that grows with me, and that never loses a thought.
Why Personal Tools Matter
We spend billions of dollars on enterprise software designed for “the average user.” But there is no average user. Your brain has its own patterns, its own associations, its own rhythms.
A tool built for YOU: - Speaks your language (my areas are AB, LU, FAM—codes that mean nothing to anyone else but everything to me) - Knows your people (the system knows Jesus works at AlephBeta without me having to explain) - Respects your workflows (I capture via Slack because that’s where I already am)
An Invitation
I’ve published the full technical story of how this system works—35,000 lines of code, AI-powered classification, lessons learned.
If you’re building something similar, or want to, I’d love to hear from you. Not because I think my approach is right for everyone, but because I believe the future of productivity tools is personal, and the more we share what we’re learning, the faster we all get there.
Reach out and say hello.
